Creating Custom Lists
Custom lists in uAuditor allow administrators to define reusable answer options for dropdown and multiple choice questions inside inspection templates. They help standardize responses, simplify template creation, and support automated scoring and validation across inspections 📋
Custom lists are especially useful when the same answer choices are used repeatedly across multiple templates.
What Are Custom Lists?
A custom list is a predefined group of selectable options that can be used inside:
- dropdown questions
- multiple choice questions
Each item in a custom list can be configured with:
- English name
- Arabic name
- pass or fail behavior
- score ratio value (optional)
This ensures consistent evaluation across inspections.
Why Use Custom Lists
Custom lists help organizations:
- standardize answer selections across templates
- reduce template design time
- automate scoring behavior
- enforce compliance logic
- simplify maintenance when updating answer options
- ensure consistent reporting across branches
They improve both template usability and scoring accuracy.
When to Use Custom Lists
Custom lists are ideal for questions involving repeated structured answers such as:
- Condition Assessments
- Example: Excellent / Acceptable / Needs Maintenance
- Compliance Status
- Example: Compliant / Partially Compliant / Non-Compliant
- Inspection Ratings
- Example: Pass / Warning / Fail
- Operational Availability
- Example: Available / Limited / Not Available
Instead of recreating these options each time, they can be reused from a single custom list.
How to Create a Custom List
To create a custom list:
- Open the Resources module
- Select Custom Lists
- Click Create New List
- Enter the list Name (English)
- Enter the list Name (Arabic) if needed
- Add list items
- Define pass/fail behavior for each item if required
- Configure score ratio values if applicable
- Save the list
The custom list becomes available immediately when designing template questions.
Configuring List Items
Each item inside a custom list can include:
- item name (English)
- item name (Arabic)
- fail-point indicator
- score ratio contribution
This allows templates to automatically calculate inspection scores based on selected responses.
Example:
Condition List:
- Excellent → Pass
- Acceptable → Pass
- Needs Maintenance → Fail
This ensures consistent scoring logic across inspections.
Using Custom Lists in Templates
After creating a custom list:
- Open the Templates module
- Edit or create a template
- Add a Dropdown or Multiple Choice question
- Select the custom list
- Save the question
The question will now use standardized answer options from the list.
Updating Custom Lists
When a custom list is updated:
- changes apply automatically to linked templates
- scoring behavior updates immediately
- reporting consistency improves across inspections
This allows centralized control over answer logic without editing multiple templates.
Best Practices for Creating Custom Lists
To design effective custom lists:
- keep item names short and clear
- align options with operational standards
- define fail points carefully
- assign score ratios only when needed
- avoid duplicate lists with similar meanings
- review lists periodically as workflows evolve
Custom lists help organizations standardize inspection responses, automate evaluation logic, and maintain consistent scoring across all templates and operational locations.
